Colonial anemones
with stuff

Order Zoanthidea

Colonial anemones or zoanthids are plentiful among the rocks. When exposed out of water, like these, they retract their tentacles and look like little grey beads. We don't know what the orange stuff growing among the zoanthids are: an ascidian or a sponge? Or something else altogether? Wondrous are the mysteries of the shore.
